China stops short of endorsing India's permanent UNSC seat bid
New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): China on Thursday stopped short of endorsing India's bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Recognizing common interests and similar concerns on major regional and international issues, India and China decided to enhance their coordination and cooperation in multilateral forums.
In a joint communiqui issued after bilateral discussions at Hyderabad House here, China said it attached great importance to India's status in international affairs as a large developing country and understood and supported India's aspiration to play a greater role in the United Nations, including in the UN Security Council.
China also welcomed India's election to non-permanent membership of UN Security Council during 2011-2012 and both countries agreed to deepen consultation within the Council.
"Multilateral issues such as climate change, the Doha Development Round of WTO, energy and food security, international financial and economic reform are a particular focus for closer cooperation," the statement said.
The two sides also recognized that as the global economy stabilizes and recovers, China and India would strengthen communication and consultation within the G20 framework, jointly facilitate the improvement of global economic governance and advance economic globalization towards balanced development and shared benefits.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation within the BRIC framework. (ANI)
