JK: Curfew reimposed to bar Muharram procession

Curfew in Srinagar
Srinagar, Dec 15: Curfew is not a new incident in Jammu Kashmir. But this time state government on Dec 15 reimposed curfew in several parts of the valley to bar Muslims to join the Muharram march.

According to some sources, hundreds of Shia Muslims would join the march if the authorities would allow them to hold the procession, which has been scheduled to begin from Ram Munshibagh and to end at Dalgate area.

Senior police officers informed, "Curfew has been imposed in police station areas of Kralkhud, Shaheedgunj, Maisuma, Kothibagh and Ram Munshibagh in Srinagar to maintain peace in the city."

Since 1990, on the eighth day of the Muslim month of Muharram, the procession has been restricted in the state as the present armed violence started in the valley from 1990.
