Facebook statistics show UK is obsessed with 'X Factor' and football
London, Dec 15 (ANI): Social networking site Facebook has revealed that Britons are officially obsessed with 'The X Factor' and football.
According to a survey of the country's 26 million users, a majority discussed the World Cup more than three million times in status updates, the greatest rise of 2010, Sky News reported.
X Factor contestants Wagner and Cher were the second and third most discussed topics, while Wayne Rooney was fourth.
Official figures revealed that One Direction, the boy band X Factor finalists were the fifth fastest-growing topic, while others were more interested in current affairs than reality television.
The general election provided a focal point for political discussions this year, with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg enjoying a surge in Facebook support before the country went to the polls.
Users also showed support for British troops fighting overseas, with a big growth in conversations encouraging people to buy a poppy in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday.
Globally, popular topics of discussion in status updates included the World Cup, films, iPad and iPhone technology, Haiti and teen pop sensation Justin Bieber. (ANI)
