India marks 9th year of 'Parliament attack'

New Delhi, Dec 13: The Rajaya sabha and Lok Sabha members paid tribute to the martyrs in 2001 terror attack on Parliament. On Monday, Dec 13, 2010, it marks 9 years.

In 2001, Indian Parliament had a high-profile attack by Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists. The five heavily harmed terrorists barged inside the parliament and began to fire indiscriminately that killed including 6 police men and 1 civilian instantly. The security guards shot back the terrorists and 5 of them were killed.

A year later four accused including Afzal Guru was arrested in relation with the attack and proved guilty after the trail. Guru found to be a Jaish-e-Mohammed militant and the only accused was sentenced to death penalty. However, the verdict still didn't executed because his petition for mercy is laying pending.

Following this massive attack by the terrorist the tension between India and Pakistan increased and it almost brought the two nations at the threshold of war.

The WikiLeaks, a whistle-blowing website released many US diplomatic classifieds that is said to be the US opinions and foreign polices. A recent release by WikiLeaks said, “US was disappointed as India did not retaliate against Pakistan after the parliament attack."
