Facebook to award 'hackers-cup'

San Francisco, Dec 11: Facebook, a social networking website is set to launch a new tradition “Hackers Cup" for its users. Hacking being the new flavour of the season, facebook will kickstart the tradition on January 2011.

Intended for software genius around the world to show their skill, ability and courage in social networking, Facebook is taking its all-night "hackathons" to the next level with an international coding competition. The winners will get a cash prize, fame and free trip to California to visit Facebook's headquarters.

Facebook will shortlist the top 25 contestants from online rounds, who will be later flown to California for the final round of competition.

The preliminary online rounds will start in January next year, with the final rounds finishing by March that is scheduled to be held at Facebook's campus in the Silicon Valley city of Palo Alto. The details of which are available at Hackers Cup page on Facebook.

The victor in the contest will walk away with a cool 5000 dollars as cash prize and a probable career opportunity in Facebook.
