Temple University teaches many Hinduism topics in its Ph.D. program in religion

Nevada (US), Dec 7 (ANI): Well known Temple University (TU) in Philadelphia (USA) is teaching various topics of Hinduism in its doctorate program in religion.

These include historical-thematic survey of Hinduism, traditions-rituals-theology of Hinduism, Samakhya Karika, Patanjali's Yogasutra, Kundalini Yoga, etc.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, described TU's action as "a step in the right direction" as students should have knowledge of the entire society to become full participants in the society.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged the schools/departments of religion and philosophy of other major world universities to strengthen their Hinduism sections.

Hinduism being the oldest religion with rich philosophical thought and a vast array of scriptures needed more exploration. Zed especially asked the Harvard, Cambridge, Yale, Princeton, Oxford, Stanford, Columbia, McGill, Australian National, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Heidelberg, Uppsala, and Utrecht universities to further enrich their Hinduism resources.

Founded in 1884, Temple University has about 39, 000 students and offers 320 academic programs, including 56 doctorates. Besides USA, it has campuses in Rome and Tokyo and offers programs in London, Beijing, Paris, Mumbai, etc. Ann Weaver Hart is the President while Dr. Terry Rey is the Chair of the Religion Department.
