Islamabad, Dec 4(ANI): Pakistan's Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) has termed the release of diplomatic cables by whistle blower website WikiLeaks as an attempt to harm the nation's image.

The committee, which met at PM House on Friday with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the chair, renewed the government's resolve to eliminate terrorism and effectively foil the nefarious designs of Pakistan's enemies, Geo News reports.

The DCC affirmed the government's strong commitment to defend the country's honour, dignity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The committee reviewed the security challenges faced by Pakistan and expressed satisfaction over the defence preparedness, and reaffirmed that the nation's defence forces and its strategic and conventional capabilities would continue to be strengthened.

Gilani also praised the role and contribution of the armed forces and the law enforcing agencies in successfully confronting threats to internal security posed by terrorists.

The DCC also reviewed the global and regional situation and, in particular, the recent developments in South Asia and Afghanistan.

Pakistan's Defence Minister, Interior Minister, Finance Minister, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the three Services Chiefs attended the meeting. (ANI)
