Melbourne, Dec 1 (ANI): Three boys from New Zealand, who were recently found and reunited with their family after 50 days of going missing, have admitted that they were drunk when they hatched their sailing plan.

Filo Filo, 15, Samu Pelesa, 15 and Etueni Nasau, 14, from Tokelau, revealed they had been drinking vodka when they decided to sail from their village on Atafu atoll to neighbouring Nukunonu in the early hours of October 5.ut midway their boat ran out of petrol and it began to drift towards Fiji and a remote corner of the Pacific Ocean. We were drunk, we were drinking," News.com.au quoted Nasau as saying.

"We went to look for more, cause we had finished our bottle," Filo stated.

Nasau added: "Then we planned it."

The boys were found 50 days later by deep-sea fishing trawler San Nikanu, and transferred to the Fiji Navy before being put in the care of New Zealand consular staff in Suva.

They had to be treated for dehydration, malnourishment and severe sunburn, before boarding a plane to Apia. (ANI)
