Namma Bengaluru Awards 2010 up for grabs

Bengaluru, Nov 29th: The Namma Bengaluru Foundation unveiled the second edition of the annual Namma Bengaluru Awards to nominate individuals or institutions who have helped to make a difference to their neighbourhood or community. Making the announcement, Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP and Trustee of the Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) said “The Namma Bengaluru Award 2010 presents an excellent opportunity for all citizens of Bengaluru to nominate their heroes - ordinary citizens and institutions - who have made extra- ordinary contributions to make Bengaluru a better city".

The key aspect of the award being that anybody can nominate their heroes, be it students, residents and even welfare associations. While students can nominate their teachers; college students their professors; residents their welfare associations, citizens their local Police constable or Police Inspector.

The awards are a testimony to the spirit of the selfless Bengalurean who wants to make a positive impact in the society. Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde shared the ethos and said “The whole purpose of these Awards is to search for the right person, doing the right work and reward them. It is the gravity of the nominees contribution that is important"

The eminent jury panel consists of 22 names that have carved a niche for themselves in their respective fields and believe in social responsibility. The names include Justice Santosh Hegde (Lokayukta), Ramesh Aravind (Film Actor), K Jairaj, (Addl Chief Sect- Karnataka Govt), Anil Kumble (President – KSCA) along with other local legends.

'Single nomination can make or break'
The interesting fact that makes the Namma Bengaluru Awards different is that winners are chosen on the quality of the extra ordinary contributions and not on the number of nominations the person or organization receives. This means, a single nomination form by any citizen can help their nominee win the award.

The Namma Bengaluru, 2010 awards will be presented in two broad categories.

Private:

* Institutions
* Individuals
* Entrepreneur
* Sportsperson

Public :

* Institutions
* Individuals (officials and govt. agencies)
* Elected Representatives.

Namma Benglurean of the Year Award
This prestigious award will be given out to that one individual who has made remarkable and exemplary contribution to the city. Along with a cash prize and memento, the person will also be included to be part of the Jury of Namma Bengaluru Awards panel.

The nomination forms are available free of cost and will be open for nominations for 15 days- from December 1st until December 15th, 2010. The forms are available at the various places in Bengaluru including the outlets of Foodworld, Cuppa, Cafe Coffee Day and Bangalore One centres.
