Handful of Argentines could recapture Falklands, says UK military brass

London, Nov.28 (ANI): Senior British military sources have warned that a handful of Argentines may make an attempt to seize the Falkland Islands after a gap of almost 28 years.

Although garrisoned by 500 British soldiers and a few Typhoon aircraft, it would just take the capturing of the only airfield in the capital Port Stanley to place the islands under Argentine control, the Daily Express quoted the sources, as saying.

The warning comes after the week the last Harrier jump jets took off from the aircraft carrier Ark Royal. Both will be scrapped as part of the Strategic Defence Review.

Without an aircraft carrier, the nearest base from which to launch jets is 4,000 miles away, in Ascension.

Last night Admiral Chris Parry said: "If we had the carrier, Argentina would not even consider trying. It's still not too late for the Government to reverse its mistake." (ANI)
