'Inaction' affidavit: SC brings relief to PM

Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Nov 23: During the hearing on petition filed by former Law Minister Subramaniam Swamy, the Supreme Court on Nov 23 cited that the Prime Minister was not obliged to sanction any permission to Swamy.

On the behalf of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Attorney General GE Vahanvati on Nov 23 stated that Swamy's petition asking the PM for sanction was misconceived in law.

Swany few days back filed a petition in the Supreme court and the court also asked the government to submit an affidavit on the behalf of the PM on his inaction in sanctioning the prosecution of then telecom minister A Raja.

After several embarrassment, now with the court's statement on the affidavit on Nov 23, the government seemed to have a sigh of relief.
