CVC with criminal case; SC embarrasses govt again

Supreme Court of India
New Delhi, Nov 22: After Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's "inaction" in 2G spectrum scam, the Supreme Court again questioned how the government appointed a person as Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) when the person has a criminal case pending against him.

The apex court on Monday, Nov 22 asked the government that how P J Thomas was appointed as the CVC since a chargesheet naming him is pending in a criminal case.

"Without looking into the file, we are concerned that if a person is an accused in a criminal case how he will function as CVC," stated the court.

The court also added, "We will sit together and go through the file."

Thomas has been chargesheeted for a palmoleine export case.
