2G Scam: TRAI to cancel mobile operator licenses

Citing the delay in rolling out the services, TRAI recommended to cancel or fine the operators including Uninor, Aircel, Etisalat, Loop and Videocon.
TRAI reviewed that licenses issued in 2008-09 were not done under proper license obligations. TRAI found that license obligations were not met in 34 cases, delay in rolling out the services in 4 cases and services rolled after much delay in 31 cases.
Earlier, CAG report revealed that many new operators, who obtained the initial 4.4 Mhz spectrum in 81 service areas during the period Apr 2008 to Jan 2009, failed to roll out the services in any service area till Dec 31.
According to media reports, TRAI recommended to cancel 8 licenses of Uninor, 5 of Aircel, 15 licenses of Etisalat, 14 licenses of Loop and 10 licenses of Videocon.
