NRI doctor detained for date rape in Australia

Melbourne, Nov 17: 37-year-old NRI doctor Arvind Sharma on Nov 17 has been detained by the Australian police and jailed for six years for committing date rape in Dec 2006.

Sharma was found guilty by a jury of seven counts of rape and three of indecent assaults, media report stated.

According media report, Sharma and the victim were known to each other and had consensual sex before the incident.

The victim claimed that despite her rejection, Sharma continued and took photos with his mobile phone camera during some of the assaults.

The victim did not file any complaint against Sharma before because she was reportedly afraid of Sharma, whose patients were happy to consult him.
