Maoist cadre surrenders in Orissa

Gajapati (Orissa), Nov.17 (ANI): A Maoist rebel, involved in several crimes including killings and explosion, surrendered to the police in Orissa's Gajapati District on Wednesday.

Naresh Mutha (30) was involved in several cases of killings and explosions in Gajapati and Rayagada Districts.

"Today, one fellow with the name of Naresh Mutha has surrendered in Gajapati district in front of the police. He was involved in various cases in Gajapati district as well as Rayagada district," said Sanjeev Arora, Superintendent of Police, Gajapati.

The Superintendent of Police further said that Mutha surrendered without any arms and ammunitions.

Mutha, who was working with the rebels since 2008, said he surrendered because Maoists have distanced themselves from their ideology and were now killing innocent tribals, whom they were supposed to serve.

"I have seen the Maoists killing and troubling the innocent tribals. My conscience warned me not to do that so I decided to leave their group and surrendered here. What the Maoists are doing against the government is wrong, and they have distanced themselves from their ideology," said Mutha.

"Actually, the Maoists come to the villages and ask for food, and then they lure and convince the tribals to join them in their movement. They brainwash the minds of tribals," he added. (ANI)
