Delhi building collapsed: Rs 2 lakh for deceased

New Delhi, Nov 16: After promising to take strong action against the builder in New Delhi, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to families of those killed in the building collapse on Tuesday, Nov 16.

Dikshit also announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the families of the injured people. At least 65 people died and 78 were injured in the incident.

"Normally we give a compensation amount of Rs 1 lakh in such cases, but in this incident we will double the compensation amount," stated the CM.

However, the owner of the collapsed building Amrit Singh has fled with his family after the accident on Nov 16.

A case has been registered against Singh under section 304 of Indian Penal Code and the CM also claimed, "exemplary punishment for the guilty."
