SC grants bail to Rathore; closes suicide case

SPS Rathore
New Delhi, Nov 11: Handing out a huge relief to former Harayana Police Chief SPS Rathore, the 'molester cop' convicted in the sensational Ruchika molestation case, the Supreme Court on Thursday, Nov 11 not only granted bail to him but also closed the abetment to suicide case slapped against him.

The apex court granted bail to Rathore on the condition that he submits his passport to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Besides this, the SC has also closed the abetment to suicide case slapped against Rathore, who was sentenced to 18-month imprisonment for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra in 1990.

This shocking development comes after the CBI submitted a closure report arguing that there was no evidence to support the allegations made by Ruchika Girhotra's family against Rathore.

The probe agency rebutted all eight charges made by Ruchika's father S C Girhotra and four allegations made by her brother Ashu, involving the false cases slapped against Ashu, post mortem proceedings and the suicide of Ruchika.

It can be recalled that it was a CBI court that enraged the public by handing out a light sentence of six months to Rathore in the case. The public outcry later led to a sessions court enhancing the sentence to 18 months.
