Sonia asks Chavan & Kalmadi to go out

Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi, Nov 9: Following the Adarsh Housing scam and Commonwealth Games corruption allegations, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accepted the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi.

"Pending enquiry, his (Chavan's) offer of resignation has been accepted. He has been asked to tender his resignation to Governor," Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said in a brief statement.

Kalmadi resigned the post of Congress Parliamentary Party Secretary. Kalmadi was in the centre of corruption charges during the preparations on Commonwealth Games. He was the Chairman of Organising Committee of the CWG which concluded in Oct 2010.

The resignations were accepted just one day before the Parliament's Winter session.

Chavan had offered to resign the Chief Minister post on Oct 30, but Sonia Gandhi waited to finish US President Barack Obama's maiden visit to India.
