New Delhi, Nov 9 (ANI): The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned for the day on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Dr Arjun K. Sengupta, who breathed his last on September 26 at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences after a brief illness.

Paying tributes to Dr Sengupta, a developmental economist of repute and Rajya Sabha member from West Bengal, Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari said: "With the sad demise of Sengupta, the country has lost an eminent economist, noted diplomat and an able Parliamentarian."

The Rajya Sabha also paid tributes to former members Yamuna Devi and S.S. Chandran who also passed away recently.

The House also conveyed heart-felt condolences for the bereaved families, who suffered due to the Tsunami in Indonesia. (ANI)
