The menu for the dinner was essentially formulated around the world-famous Awadhi cuisine, which originates from the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The Awadhi cuisine, which involves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, is influenced by the Mughal cooking techniques. It can otherwise be described as the royal Nawabi food.

The first couple enjoyed desserts such as kesar phirni and mava poti while enjoying the company of guests such as Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee, Rahul Gandhi, A K Antony, P Chidambaram, S M Krishna and Sharad Pawar, senior BJP leader LK Advani and Arun Jaitley.
