Cyclonic storm JAL likely to hit Chennai and Nellore coast tonight

Visakhapatnam, Nov.7 (ANI): A severe cyclonic storm, Jal over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north westwards and lay centered at 320 kilometres southeast of Chennai and 400 km southeast of Nellore.

The Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam forecast that the Severe Cyclonic Storm, Jal was likely to weaken into a Cyclonic Storm before crossing the coast between Chennai and Nellore close to Chennai on Sunday night.

As the storm is likely to trigger tidal waves several metres high people in vulnerable habitations in Nellore and Prakasam districts are being cleared to safer places.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Sunday reviewed the preparedness for the impending danger with officials and extended every possible measure from the State government in minimizing the loss. (ANI)
