UP: Villagers fight to prove superiority on Diwali
"Choti Diwali" (small Diwali) has been celebrated by the people of two villages of the state by hurling stones and wielding lathis at one another in an open field.
As per the local belief, the tradition was started 400 years ago after the residents of Faizganj village defeated Gangpur in a fight after many attempts.
The fight starts in the afternoon and continues till late evening on the day of Diwali.
Finally, by the night, the warring sides are friends again, visiting each others house inquiring about the health of those injured in the fight and offering sweets.
