Global pincer movement could wipe out malaria
London, Nov 5 (ANI): A scientist believes that malaria could be eradicated globally through a global pincer movement.
"It could take 50 or 60 years," New Scientist quoted Richard Feachem of the University of California as saying.
At a press conference in London, Feachem, who is also the author of "Shrinking the malaria map", said that malaria has been eliminated in 100 countries and the challenge now is to remove the disease in the 99 countries where it remains.
He also said that attempts to eradicate the disease in countries surrounded by malaria-ridden regions could be counterproductive and they may be better off trying to control malaria instead.
"The key is to squeeze towards the equator," he concluded. (ANI)
