Aussies have a laid back approach to nicknames
Melbourne, Nov 05 (ANI): A survey has found that Australians have a very laid back approach to nicknames, pseudonyms and name changes.
It is normal to be called "hotrod", "chunks" or "moose face", and research shows 28 percent in NSW and the ACT have a different name on their official ID to the one they were born with, and in Queensland, 39 percent.
A total of 26 percent of those in NSW and the ACT said they would consider changing their name, falling to 21 percent in Queensland, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Just under three quarters of all respondents said they use a different name online, mainly for privacy reasons, the majority said they had pet names for their partners, with "honey", "babe" and "petal" featuring highly.
And only 60 percent of respondents thought women should take their husband's name after marriage.
Financial services firm, OnePath, which changed its name from ING Australia after being bought by ANZ BANK, commissioned the research. (ANI)
