Cauvery row: Jaya seeks Karunanidhi's resignation
“Cauvery is the lifeline of Tamil Nadu. He should have anticipated the situation (of Karnataka denying water) and taken action accordingly," the Opposition leader said in a statement.
Jayalalithaa, who has demanded the CM's resignation on moral grounds, also slammed Karunanidhi for his Oct 28 remarks that he would not respond to comments on Karnataka"s refusal to release water based on media reports as it could affect ties between the states.
She further argued that Karnataka had not held similar views when Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared his state cannot release water from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu.
“He should have immediately taken up the matter with the Prime Minister," Jayalalithaa said.
Karunanidhi, on the other hand, has made it clear that he would no seek intervention, instead would take the legal route.
“Despite being in power at the state and Centre, if Mr Karunanidhi cannot ensure water from Cauvery, he should resign as Chief Minister accepting moral responsibility," she asserted.
