Siliguri: Girl commits suicide over obscene MMS

Siliguri, Oct 29: A 18-year-old girl committed suicide on Wednesday, Oct 27 after yielding to severe depression over the circulation of an MMS showing her in a compromising position.

Police has identified the girl as a diploma student of Siliguri Government Polythechnic College.

The obscene clips were allegedly captured and circulated by a student of the college, identified as Anindya Garai.

The girl is learnt to have met Anindya at hostel mess where she was filmed on a mobile phone. She later became aware of the MMS and lodged a police complaint in Sep 2010.

However, she buckled under the pressure and took the extreme step as the accused was reportedly blackmailing her as well.

Kin of the victim have charged the police of neglecting the case when the complaint was lodged, which, they believe, lead to the tragic loss of the young girl.

A criminal case was filed against Anindya, who is absconding now.

The girl did not leave any suicide note behind.
