Meghalaya civic polls postponed due to violence
"The law and order situation is not conducive for elections, so the first-ever civic polls in 3 districts of Garo Hills was adjourned," chief electoral officer Prashant Naik said.
"New dates for holding the polls would be decided later by the government," he added.
In East Garo Hills, many candidate's vehicle were set on fire by miscreants and a petrol bomb was also hurled at the residence of deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi, but it did not explode, police said.
"Many polling personnel were also threatened," police added.
