K'taka HC upholds disqualification of 11 MLAs

Bangalore,Oct 29: The disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs was upheld by the Karnataka High court on Friday, Oct 29.

Justice Sabhahit said, Speaker KG Bopaiah's ruling disqualifying the BJP MLAs was in accordance with Para 2 (1) (a) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

"High Court's decision is a huge victory for us. We won a constitutional battle," said K Diwakar, Yeddyurappa's advisor.

Earlier, the Karnataka speaker K G Bopaiah disqualifed 16 rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law hours ahead of the trust vote on Oct 11.

Challenging the order of Speaker KG Bopaiah, rebel MLAs filed a petition in court.
