Compensation for Nuclear accident: India signs CSC

Nuclear sign
New Delhi, Oct 27: To get the compensation in case of trans-national implications of a nuclear accident, India signed Convention on Supplementary Compensation (CSC) in Vienna on Oct 27.

CSC, which sets parameters on a nuclear operator's financial liability, was earlier ratified by only four countries like US, Argentina, Morocco and Romania and now India joined the list with thirteen other countries.

The CSC provides for establishment of an international fund to increase the amount available to compensate victims and allows for compensating civil damage occurring within a State's exclusive economic zone, including loss of tourism or fisheries related income.
