Andhra: Girl set on fire by jilted auto-driver

Hyderabad, Oct 27: A 17-year-old girl is left battling for her life after being set on fire by an auto-rickshaw driver, whose advances she had spurned.

According to the police, the man had proposed to girl, a first-year intermediate student, a few months ago. But the girl had turned him down.

The jilted lover came back on Tuesday, Oct 27 to punish the girl. The man poured kerosene on the girl and set her on fire outside her house at Reddygunta locality in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor town.

The accused fled the scene immediately after setting the girl ablaze, said the father of the girl, identified as Shiva Nanda Reddy, in the police complaint.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital with 65 per cent burn. She is now in critical condition, the police informed.
