Media should stop paying attention to persons like Arundhati: Congress
New Delhi, Oct.26 (ANI): Congress party on Tuesday urged the media to avoid giving unwanted attention to individuals like novelist Arundhati Roy who do not represent the national voice.
Talking to reporters in the capital, Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari asked the media not to give attention to statements made by individuals like Arundhati Roy who have no representative status.
He was replying to a query on the speech made by Arundhati Roy while sharing a platform with Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. He said: "Delhi Police will decide about the fate of individuals like Arundhati Roy."
Roy, a Booker Prize-winning author, had shared the sentiments of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at the function in Delhi.
The government is expected to seek the Law Ministry's view on registering a case of sedition against Roy and hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for their speeches.
The Home Ministry has stated that the police will initiate appropriate legal action over the statements made by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Arundhati Roy. The Ministry was reacting to the statement made by the BJP leader Arun Jaitley , which accused the government of "looking the other way" over the statements made by Geelani. (ANI)
