Will not 'force' N-deal on Japan: Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh
Tokyo, Oct 25: During his two-day Japan tour, Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh stated that he would not "force" the Nuclear deal issue on Japan as he observed its sensitivity in the country.

"I do recognise the sensitivity of the subject in Japan and will not therefore force the issue," stated Singh on Monday, Oct 25.

He made such comments in the backdrop of Japan insisting that the proposed agreement on a civil nuclear deal should have a provision under which the co-operation would be called off if India were to test a nuclear weapon.

However, Singh also hoped that the Japanese firms would participate in expansion of India"s nuclear industry.

"We would hope that Japan will be India"s partner in expansion of its civil nuclear industry for peaceful purposes," he added.
