Guj: BJP leads in polls; Modi defeats Cong again?

Ahmedabad, Oct 23: Once again Narendra Modi led BJP in Gujarat seemed to post a victory in the state as initial vote counting of panchayat and municipality elections revealed on Oct 23 that BJP was leading in most of the local bodies.

Out of the total 24 district panchayats, BJP was leading in 22 while the Congress was leading in two which includes Gandhinagar and Tapi.

In the municipalities, the BJP was leading in 20 while the Congress was leading in five.

The BJP, upbeat from the victory of the municipal corporation polls, campaigned extensively with Modi and other party leaders addressing three to four public rallies a day each in different parts of the state.

The BJP won elections to the six municipal corporations recently, the results of which were announced on Oct 10, 2010.
