New York, Oct 22 (ANI): A survey has revealed that people who reside in Manhattan are far happier than people who stay in the Bronx.

The new poll found that 84 percent of Gotham is "very satisfied", but two-thirds of those living in the Bronx say they would flee the first chance they got.

"These results are polarizing and polarized," the New York Daily News quoted Vin Cipolla, president of the Municipal Art Society, which commissioned the Marist poll of 1,000 New Yorkers, as saying.

"When you consider the very profound level of dissatisfaction among Bronx residents, there is a real unsettling disparity," Cipolla stated.

The least satisfied group in the city is people of colour in the Bronx who make less than 75,000 dollars a year, while white Manhattanites who make more than 75,000 dollars are the most satisfied.

Given the opportunity to move, nearly two-thirds of Manhattan residents say they would stay put, and only about a third of those in the Bronx said they would stay.

Asked to compare how friendly, affordable and safe the five boroughs are, 31 percent said Manhattan is tops, while 7 percent named the Bronx.

Officials hope the poll helps city agencies set priorities for improving neighbourhoods.

"This poll underscores the serious need for investment in urban areas like the Bronx," Cipolla added. (ANI)
