'CWG 2010 records most expensive games'

Sources said during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, 2006, with 17 projects and creating new infrastructure, the expenditure came to little more than 5,000 crore rupees. And the Australian government spent around 800 crore rupees for upgrading venues like the Melbourbne Cricket ground.
The Bejing Olympics 2008 was more expensive with Rs 28,000 crores and spent for the overall constructions with more than a dozen venues.
However, the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the authorities spent around a whooping 70,000 crore rupee for building infrastructure like roads and flyovers, a new airport terminal, renovating JN Stadium and Major Dhyanchand Stadium and constructing a few new ones like the Tyagraj Stadium. This makes the Delhi Commonwealth Games one of the most expensive sporting events ever hosted in the world.
