World's most expensive Barbie auctioned for $302K!

Melbourne, 0ct 21 (ANI): A Barbie with jewels designed by Australia's Stefano Caturi, believed to be the most expensive Barbie in the world, has been auctioned for 302,500 dollars at Christie's in New York.

Mattel, the company behind the world's most famous doll, commissioned Canturi to create a finger-wide neckpiece and tiny matching ring to promote its new Barbie collection, reports the Age.

The jewellery-set features a necklace made from three carats of white diamonds set around a one carat, square emerald-cut pink diamond.

Mattel sent their bejewelled Barbie on a whirlwind tour to London, Geneva and Hong Kong before returning her to New York for the auction where the distinctive, purplish-pink diamond - a highly collectable, registered tendered stone from the Australian Argyle mine - was the drawcard.

According to the auctioneer Christie's in New York, "the modified square-cut fancy vivid purplish pink diamond transcends this exceptional Barbie into a historical investment piece."

Canturi has also made history as the first Australian jeweller to create a fragrance and launch it world-wide. (ANI)
