Nifty ends below 6k; metals, telecom dip

Mumbai, Oct 20: Equity benchmarks maintained downtrend on the back of sell-off in metal, financial, realty, FMCG and auto companies. The 50-share NSE Nifty closed below the 6,000 mark for the first time in last 15 sessions.

However, heavyweights like Reliance Industries, NTPC, Infosys and L&T were on buyers' radar, which capped the losses to some extent.

The Sensex was trading at 19872, down 111 points and the Nifty was at 5987, down 43 points.

Nifty trades below 6000; Tata, Sesa dip

At 14:13 pm, the Nifty was trading around 6000 mark amid volatility. The markets were dragged as the Nifty slipped below 6000 mark but recovered from its intermediate support level of 5980.

The Sensex was up 17.27 points at 20000.40, and the Nifty was down 8.95 points at 6018.35.

In the largecap space, Ranbaxy Labs, BPCL, Tata Power, Larsen and Reliance Industries were up 1-3pc.

While, Sterlite Industries, Sesa Goa, Tata Steel, HDFC and SAIL were down 2-3pc.

Nifty trades in narrow range; SAIL, HDFC dip

At 11:59 am, the NSE Nifty was trading in a narrow range of 6005-6030. Heavyweights like oil & gas, PSU power, auto (barring Tata Motors) and technology along with L&T, Tata Power, Cipla and Ranbaxy Labs were quite supportive to the markets.

Selling continued in metal companies along with HDFC, SBI, HDFC Bank, Bharti, ITC, Tata Motors, Dr Reddys Labs and Suzlon Energy.

The Sensex was trading at 19976, down 7 points and the Nifty was at 6018, down 8.5 points.

The top losers were Sterlite Industries, HDFC, Tata Steel, Sesa Goa, and SAIL.

Nifty consolidates; metals slip, tech gains

Though the benchmark Nifty started the session below 6000 mark due to weak global cues but managed to claw back above the same level immediately. Equity benchmarks were consolidating at previous closing values.

At 9:30 am, the Sensex was trading at 19946, down 37 points and the Nifty was at 6013, down 15 points. However, the CNX Midcap rose 24 points to 9286.

The markets were dragged by BPCL, Hindalco, TCS, Sterlite Inds, SAIL, Sesa Goa, Ambuja Cements, ACC and Bharti

However, TCS, L&T, Wipro, HUL, Maruti, NTPC, Bajaj Auto and Infosys were on buyers' radar.
