Gilani rules out calling Army in 'troubled' Karachi for restoring law and order
Islamabad, Oct 20 (ANI): While Pakistan's commercial capital, Karachi, continues to bleed with target killings, Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has declared that the Army would not be called in the city for restoring law and order.
Responding to a media query on Nabeel Gabol's statement regarding calling the Army in Karachi, Gilani said that this was Gabol's 'personal opinion' and not the party's view, The Nation reported.
Gilani also said that the government is deeply grieved at the killings in the provincial capital and shares sympathy with the bereaved families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the death toll of the Karachi target killings rose to 73 after four consecutive days of violence, as thirty more people from various ethnicities, including one dozen in a single incident, were killed yesterday.
The incidents of killings began after ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed declared on October 16 that his party was boycotting the by-polls in Orangi Town.
Despite Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza's orders to law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security, the situation in the city remains grim. (ANI)
