China flag
Beijing, Oct 19: The Chinese who were trapped inside the mine explosion on Saturday, Oct 16 were not fortunate like the Chile's rescued miners, as all 37 workers were confirmed dead on Tuesday, Oct 19.

Though 239 people managed to escape from the gas leak, which occurred in the central province of Henan but rescuers had said the toll of the missing miners has reached to 37.

Sources said in the year 2008, 23 people died from this same mine due to gas leak. It further added China's mines are the deadliest in the world, due to lax safety standards and a rush to feed energy demand from a robust economy.

More than 2,600 people died in coal mine accidents in 2009 alone.
