Terror scare hits Srinagar ahead of security meet

Srinagar, Oct 17: A suspected terror bid was foiled here on Monday, Oct 17 morning when an improvised explosive device (IED) was detected and defused ahead of a crucial security meeting.

Immediately after the IED was detected outside the Police Control Room near Batamaloo here, the bomb disposal squad was rushed in to diffuse the explosive.

Quoting officials, medal reports state that a plastic can containing a nine-volt battery, a programmed Timer Device (PTD) and some black powdery substance, was detected by a police patrol just outside the PCR complex.

The material weighing 1.5 kilogram is not yet confirmed to be an IED, Inspector General of Police Kashmir S M Sahai. Investigations are on.

The scare came ahead of a security meeting, scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, to be attended by senior police and other security officials.
