BSNL & Uninor get more new GSM users in Sep 2010

New Delhi, Oct 18: The new report by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) revealed that the number of GSM subscribers in India has grown by 2.58 percent in the month of Sep 2010 compared to Aug 2010.

The new report which was released on Monday, Oct 18 showed that the total number of GSM subscribers in the country has become 494 million in Sep against the 481 million in Aug 2010.

During the month of Sep BSNL ranked first with 2.3 million new subscribers at a growth rate of 3.32 percent. Now the state owned BSNL has 72.6 million users.

The new face in the telecom sector, Uninor bagged the second place with 2.17 million new subscibers at a growth rate of 23.9 percent. It's user base went up to 11 million.

During the same period the telecom giant Airtel added 2 million new customers to reach 143 million subscribers at a growth rate of 1.44 percent. Another established service provider Vodafone Essar marked 1.56 percent growth rate adding 1.7 million new users.

Idea Cellular added 1.4 million subscribers at a growth rate of 2.03 percent to reach 74.2 million. Another service provider Aircel also added 1.6 million new customers in the month of Sep 2010.
