New Delhi, Oct.18 (ANI): Performance of the first all-women police battalion from Nagaland was appreciated by one and all during the recently concluded Commonwealth Games here.

Around 600 women personnel, who were barely out of their teens, were deployed at various important points.

These courageous girls stood alert at all major market areas, metro railway stations, and venues hosting the various sports events.he all-women police battalion from Nagaland was formed exclusively for the Games duty. These girls underwent nine months of rigorous training ahead of the Games.

"We are proud of ourselves because this is the first time that a women's battalion from Nagaland was performing duty here. And, for the girls also, this was their first duty," said Temjensenla Jamir, Deputy Commanding Officer of the All Women's Battalion of Nagaland Police.

These women personnel have been well equipped to handle weapons like 303 rifles, self-loading rifles, AK-47s, 9-mm pistols, light machine guns, carbines and Insaas rifles.

Most of these girls hail from a rural background and had never been to a metropolitan city. But that did not affect them in the least.

"We stand firm while we do our duty and we give the best. That is what we are doing, giving our best to perform our duty in Delhi," said Naro, one of the security personnel during the games.

"We have come here to provide security in the big event. So far our girls are doing fine and they are working enthusiastically. They will carry on their duty well till the end of the game," said Meren Jamir, Commanding officer.

Local residents and visitors were delighted to notice an all women force from Nagaland during the Games in Delhi.

"Security forces from northeast, that too these young girls are providing security to us. We feel safe with all these arrangements. We really feel proud of them," said Praveen Dutta, a local resident during the Games.

While working eight-hour shifts on daily basis, these girls' only regret remained that they couldn't explore the city and its various attractions.

However most of them plan to visit Delhi again. But this time, as tourists. By Karam Roniya(ANI)
