Jhansi, Oct 17 (ANI): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will present Colours to five-T 90 regiments at a parade to be held at Babina in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi Districtn October 19.
As the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, President Patil will present the Standards simultaneously to 83, 12, 13, 15 and 19 armoured regiments.
This is the first time that five armoured regiments will be presented the Colours together.
The General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Army Command, Lt. General Pradeep Khanna, and other civil and military dignitaries will attend the function.
A large number of retired army and civil dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
The T-90s will present a mounted parade in honour of President Patil.
The presentation of colours is a martial legacy, centuries old and is reminiscent of the heroic deeds of by-gone battlefields. While the practice of carrying the colour into battle has died, the tradition of receiving, holding and parading it continues.
Thus, the presentation of Colours by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces is recognition of service rendered by regiments in service of the nation. By Amit Shankar (ANI)
