Goa by-polls: Voting begins in Valpoi

About 17,912 voters, will exercise their franchise to elect the representatives in the Valpoi constituency and the counting of votes will take place Oct 21.
According to the sources till now the polling was peaceful with people queuing up at the booths where the by-polls are held.
By-elections was conducted after Vishwajit Rane, Independent MLA and Goa Health Minister resigned on Jun 24, as member of state Assembly and from Cabinet to join the Congress party.
In the by-polls Vishwajit Rane, representing Valpoi constituency, is facing a tough fight from BJP candidate Santosh Halarnkar.
In the 2007 assembly elections, Rane had defeated the BJP candidate Puti Gaonkar.
