No new tax for CWG expenses: Dikshit to Delhiites

New Delhi, Oct 17: Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit assured the citizens that the government would not charge them any new tax for the expenses of CWG 2010, which were estimated to have cost the nation a Rs 70,000 crore.

"Don't worry. You won't get any new tax. At least my very firm opinion is that we don't need to increase taxes but there is a need to make our collection system more transparent and efficient," stated Dikshit on Oct 17.

Delhi government was facing serious fund crunch due to huge spending on infrastructure projects linked to the Games.

According the government officials, for improving infrastructure facilities ahead of the sporting extravaganza only, the estimate expense was about Rs 15,000 crore.
