Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed in Shopian encounter

Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir), Oct 14 (ANI): The security forces gunned down three Hizbul Mujahideen militants in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian District on Thursday.

"Acting on credible inputs about presence of militants, a joint team of security men launched a cordon-and-search operation at Chewan in Keller area of Shopian District," said District Superintendent of Police Shahid Mehraj.

"The militants were asked to surrender but they opened indiscriminate firing at the security forces, who retaliated, triggering-off a fierce gun battle," he added.

The officials here further said all the three killed militants were affiliated to the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit. (ANI)
