Karnataka BJP govt survives second trust vote

Bangalore, Oct 14: The BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in Karnataka on Thursday, Oct 14 won the second trust vote with strength of 106 in 208-member house.

The Opposition parties, JD(S) and Congress combine, secured a strength of 100.

The victory in the floor test is irrelevant for now as the Karnataka High Court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on the joint writ petition filed by the 16 disqualified rebels on Monday, Oct 18.

The 225-member legislative assembly was reduced to 208 on Monday, Oct 11 when the Speaker KG Bopaiah disqualified 16 dissident MLAs under the anti-defection law ahead of the first floor test in the Assembly.

The Karnataka Assembly has been adjourned sine die.
