Two UNLF rebels arrested in Guwahati

A police spokesperson said the two UNLF militants, Jai Singh and Ashok Singh, were arrested from Panbazar area. "Based on specific inputs about the presence of the two UNLF militants, we raided a house and arrested the duo," a police official said.
Police seized several cell phones, laptops, and extortion demand notes from the arrested rebels.
"The duo was here to extort money from businessman having business interests in Manipur," the official said.
"Guwahati has become a hub for militants from Manipur with most of them sheltered in rented houses in the garb of students or working people to carry out extortion," the official added.
At least 20 militants from various Manipur-based rebel groups have been arrested from Guwahati in the past six months.
