Twitter close to one billion users mark

San Francisco, Oct 13: The popular social networking website Twitter is going to hit the 1 billion users mark.

Twitter's co-founder Evan Williams told media that networking hub will soon have one billion users. He added that there are more than 165 million registered users on the the site.

"Twitter will get to a billion members," said Evan Williams.

According to Twitter, it's users send out more than 100 million Tweets every day. By reaching one billion, Twitter eyes more advertisement on the platform. By the huge popularity of social networking hub, advertisers shifted their focus from traditional media like TV and newspapers to micro blogging sites.

However, Twitter's main rival and world's most popular hub, Facebook, has more than 500 million active users. It is expected that Facebook will reach the 1 billion mark before Twitter.
