Oz politician Brumby gets Gandhi Peace Award

The Award, which is held annually on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 2, is given to those who contibute towards Gandhi's legacy for world peace.
"I am very proud to accept the Mahatma Gandhi Award which I see as an award for the Victorian people and their commitment to promoting harmony across our community," Brumby said.
Terming Victorians a multicultural and diverse people, he said, "we come from over 200 countries, speak more than 230 languages and dialects and follow more than 120 different faiths."
"The Parliament of the World's Religions has brought together Victorians and conference delegates from across the world to share traditions, cultures and friendships. We believe in the right of all Victorians, of all backgrounds, to live without fear of racial and religious discrimination", he added.
Brumby thanked Hindu Foundation of Australia and also acknowledged the work of the Board of the Parliament of the World's Religions.
